God has gained another angel with the passing of David Tavares Rego, age 85. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Alda Do Espirito Santo Rego.

He was born to the late Jose do Rego and Guilhermina Tavares in Sao Miguel, Azores.

David lived in Bermuda for 16 years, before immigrating to Pawtucket, Rhode Island for 42 years.

He will be forever missed by his children Naomi (John) Buckley, Eulalia Maria (Napoleon) DaGraca, Louis Rego, Alda (James) Hernandez, Clarisse (Robert) Wood, preceded in death by daughters Margaret and Susie. Treasured by his grandchildren Chico, David, James Jr. (Emily), Naomi (Jose), Jaime (Abner), Sean, Aubrey, Jeremy (Nicole), Amber, Brianna, Amara, Anthony, George, Trevor (Amanda), Quinn, Sabrina, and Oliver. He also leaves behind 21 great grandchildren, friends, and family, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families. He was predeceased by his siblings Maria, Manuel, Salvador, and Sara.

Our family was fortunate to have our dad in our lives for all these years. It has been said that “A father is neither an anchor to hold us back nor a sail to take us there, but a guiding light whose love shows us the way.” Our Dad was a strong, honest, and hardworking man. He taught us so many things. If you had a problem, he would figure out a way to solve it. He took great care of our mother even when he himself was struggling with his cancer. His was a jack of all trades, electrical, carpentry and mechanical. He also had a love for cooking, but every time you thought you had his “secret” recipe he would tweak it. The not-so-secret ingredient was his love.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday, October 28, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at St Teresa's Church, 358 Newport Ave., Pawtucket. (Colors may be worn) Interment will follow the service at Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Blvd, Providence, RI.

The family requests that people make donations in support of the American Cancer Society in lieu of sending flowers.
